SHAH ALAM, Sept 26 — The Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaj has pardoned Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor over the latter's disrespectful remarks against the Ruler during the state elections last year.
His Royal Highness said he has accepted the PAS leader’s apology in the spirit of unity and brotherhood among fellow Muslims and the Malays.
"I do not wish for Muslims to remain in conflict with one another, and we, as fellow Muslims, should always be forgiving when the one seeking forgiveness is sincere in their request,” said Sultan Sharafuddin in a statement issued by the Selangor Palace today.
His Royal Highness also advised Sanusi to be more mindful of his public statements and speeches and ensure it befits his position as a leader.
"On this occasion, I would like to advise Datuk Seri to always be mindful of your words and conduct, and to refrain from becoming overly emotional and using inappropriate language when addressing the people, especially when in the state of Selangor.
"I do not want the people, particularly in Selangor, to be influenced or accustomed to hearing harsh words and baseless accusations, especially from leaders. Good behaviour and speech are very important for the future of your political career.
"As a leader, you must always consider the consequences of every action taken," the Ruler decreed.
Earlier today, the Selangor Palace said His Royal Highness had been informed of Sanusi’s apology for his speech during the state election campaigning on July 11, 2023, which was deemed offensive and disrespectful to Sultan Sharafuddin.

The PAS lawmaker had also apologised to Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari, as well as to the people of Selangor for his remarks, which were seen as belittling the appointment of the Selangor Menteri Besar.
“With the utmost respect and humility, I offer my profound apology to Sultan Sharafuddin for my statement on July 11, 2023, as charged against me in court, which has been regarded as insulting and disrespectful to His Royal Highness.
“I realise that when I am in another state, especially concerning my case when I was in Selangor, I should not have uttered words that were uncivil, offensive, and impolite as I did, even though the speech was made in the heat of the election campaign.
“Therefore, with deep remorse and humility, I sincerely beg for forgiveness from His Royal Highness, as well as from the Menteri Besar and the people of Selangor, for all my inappropriate remarks,” he said during a press conference at Wisma Darul Aman in Alor Setar yesterday.
Sanusi also pledged to be more cautious when making statements in the future and to ensure that all his remarks align with the polite and respectful customs of Malay culture, which upholds the Malay Rulers and the royal institution.
Sanusi was charged in court under Section 4(1)(b) of the Sedition Act 1948 for his remarks.
