SHAH ALAM, Sept 26 – Five squatter families residing along Jalan Broga, Semenyih, have received RM50,000 in compensation each as part of their resettlement agreement with a property developer.
Kajang Municipal Council (MPKj) Zone 21 councillor A. Ramachandran said the compensation is intended to help the families with home rentals or purchases.
“Through a mutual agreement, the developer has offered RM50,000 in compensation to each family. Residents have been given until November 19 to vacate the land.
“The developer’s project will inevitably impact the squatter area, so the residents are seeking either new housing or cash compensation for their resettlement,” he said when contacted.
Ramachandran added that the developer has also allocated RM15,000 to relocate three temples in the area, which will be affected by the project.
“The relocation is necessary to facilitate the construction of new infrastructure by the developer, in compliance with MPKj standards.
“The developer is required to provide essential facilities like access roads, drainage systems and utilities as outlined in the approved planning permits.”
He said the affected area is a piece of government reserve land, adding that the families previously held temporary occupation licences that expired in the 1970s.
“In 2021, the residents raised the issue to me and we worked on finding a solution. The matter has now been resolved with the compensation provided,” he said.
The developer in question, Boustead Balau Sdn Bhd, is set to build the Mutiara Hills township on a 485.6ha site.
