SHAH ALAM, Sept 25 — Eight private religious schools under GISB Holdings (GISBH) have been ordered to shut effective September 23, following recent allegations of child abuse and deviant teachings at the institutions.

The Selangor Islamic Religious Council (Mais) said the enforcement action was taken by the Selangor Islamic Religious Department (Jais) under the Control of Islamic Religious Schools Enactment 1988, adding that the schools will be deregistered.

The eight private Islamic schools in question are Sekolah Rendah Islam Miftahul Hikmah in Klang, Sekolah Menengah Islam Zadut Taqwa 2 in Puchong, Sekolah Menengah Islam Zadut Taqwa 1 in Shah Alam, Maahad Tahfiz Wal Ulum Al Ghazaly and Sekolah Rendah Islam Integrasi Qurratul Ain in Sepang, and Sekolah Menengah Islam Global Ikhwan (Banat), Sekolah Rendah Islam Yaqutul Fuad, and Sekolah Rendah Islam Integrasi Bustanul Ikhwani in Rawang.

Mais also announced that it has taken over the management of Masjid Cahaya Iman and temporarily closed the Musolla Ikhwan surau at the GISBH Complex in Bandar Country Homes, Rawang, pending investigations into potential criminal offences, including syariah violations, involving GISBH and its network.

The state Islamic body added that religious enforcement officers are finalising investigation papers against individuals linked to GISBH for offences under the Syariah Criminal Offences (Selangor) Enactment 1995 and the Islamic Religious Administration Enactment (State of Selangor) 2003.

The investigation papers will be submitted to the chief syariah prosecutor.

“Mais will also assist the Social Welfare Department (JKM) in the rehabilitation of children rescued from (GISBH) welfare homes, who are under JKM's care,” it said in a statement today.

Similarly, Mais established a special committee comprising representatives from Jais, the police, the state mufti’s office, JKM and other relevant agencies to coordinate actions against GISBH and its network.

“Mais and all Islamic religious agencies in Selangor will continue to carry out enforcement actions in a serious and coordinated manner to ensure that any movement spreading teachings that deviate from true Islam is fully eradicated in the state and all involved parties are brought to justice.”
