SHAH ALAM, Sept 25 — The Selangor government and its agencies have been encouraged to develop artificial intelligence (AI) guidelines to promote AI development and industry growth in the state.
Science, Technology and Innovation Ministry (Mosti) Strategic Technology and S&T Application Division principal assistant secretary Airull Azizi Awang Lah said this can be implemented by referring to existing frameworks from Mosti.
“At the moment there has been no direct engagement with the Selangor government on AI development, but we do encourage the state or its agencies to develop their own guidelines by using our framework as a reference.
“Perhaps, Invest Selangor Bhd can develop specific guidelines,” he told Media Selangor on the sidelines of the 2025 Selangor State Budget dialogue session at the Setia City Convention Centre here yesterday.

Earlier, Airull Azizi Awang Lah delivered a talk titled “Strategic Initiatives to Attract AI Investment and Support the Industry's Development in Malaysia”.
Meanwhile, he pointed out that the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission is developing industry-specific guidelines for its sector.
On measures to prevent AI misuse, particularly in areas such as privacy and data security, Airull Azizi said the federal government launched a five-year National AI Roadmap in 2021, with action plans already in place.
He added that while public awareness of AI is not entirely lacking, there is a need to improve understanding, especially among businesses.
The National AI Roadmap is aimed at fostering a robust AI ecosystem.
While initial action plans were established, stakeholders have recognised a significant need to enhance public awareness of AI technologies among citizens.
The roadmap outlines several strategic objectives, including the establishment of AI governance, advancing research and development, and fostering a skilled workforce to drive innovation.
