SHAH ALAM, Sept 24 – Tourism Selangor has appointed 51 community hosts in six districts since 2018 to boost tourism and promote local culture and heritage.
Its chief executive officer Azrul Shah Mohamad said the hosts are leading an initiative to boost local tourism and provide authentic experiences for visitors.
The six districts involved in the effort are Klang, Kuala Langat, Hulu Selangor, Sabak Bernam, Kuala Selangor, and Hulu Langat.
“The initiative reflects our belief that authentic, locally driven experiences are key to showcasing the true essence of Selangor.
“By empowering local communities to lead these experiences, we are not only enriching the tourism landscape but also fostering a deeper connection between visitors and the state's rich heritage and culture,” he said in a statement today.

Azrul said the Discovery of Local Community Host programme, a collaboration between Tourism Selangor and the Tourism, Arts and Culture Ministry, aims to enrich the local tourism landscape by fostering meaningful and immersive experiences led by these community hosts.
He said the ministry sees the programme as a potential model for developing guidelines for community-based tourism nationwide.
“One of the most successful examples of community-based tourism in Selangor is the highly acclaimed Royal Klang Town Heritage Walk, a programme that takes visitors through 11 historical landmarks in Klang, offering a journey through the rich heritage of the royal town,” the statement read.
Apart from the heritage walk, Azrul said Selangor offers three other distinctive community-based tourism packages, namely, the 1,001 Cerita Tempe in Kuala Langat, A Cultural Experience in Hulu Selangor, and the Heritage Garden Trail in Hulu Selangor.
