SUBANG JAYA, Sept 20 — The state government is focusing on modernising agriculture and cultivating high-value crops, said Menteri Besar Dato' Seri Amirudin Shari.

This effort is part of an initiative to advance Selangor's agricultural sector while promoting local produce.

“Modernisation is key to producing high-value yields... for instance, at this exhibition, we are showcasing products including melons, vanilla planifolia, and lobster farming.

“This is crucial and a key element in modernisation, while continuing to promote other products under the Selangor Agricultural Development Corporation to strengthen agricultural progress,” he said.

Amirudin was speaking to the press during the Malaysia Agriculture, Horticulture, and Agrotourism Exhibition 2024 at the Malaysia Agro Exposition Park in Serdang yesterday.

During the event, the Menteri Besar was accompanied by the state executive councillor for infrastructure and agriculture Izham Hashim to visit the Selangor Pavilion, which features a variety of agricultural products.

Additionally, he encouraged residents involved in community gardening to transition from conventional crops to high-value crops.

“These community gardens, while serving as hobbies or urban farming activities that help ease financial burdens, could be transformed into cultivating high-value crops.

“A transformation is needed, but they should collaborate due to the small size of the gardens. High-value farming, like vanilla cultivation, does not require intensive care,” Amirudin said.
