Malaysian Consulate warns travellers to stay cautious due to bad weather in Southerm Thailand

SONGKHLA, 19 Sept — The Malaysian Consulate in Southern Thailand has urged Malaysian travellers to remain vigilant about the potential effects of the unpredictable weather conditions in the country.

Consul General in Songkhla Ahmad Fahmi Ahmad Sarkawi told Bernama that Malaysians have been advised to be cautious if planning to travel to Thailand during this period.

“This is a reminder for any Malaysian travellers who wish to visit Thailand at this time, as the weather is very adverse, not only in southern Thailand but also in northern Thailand

“The weather in Thailand is currently quite severe with strong winds, heavy rain, and high waves, especially in island areas like Phuket. Those who plan to drive or travel by air are advised to take precautionary measures and be careful when visiting coastal areas or islands,” he said today.

Fahmi also advised everyone to avoid travelling to coastal areas or islands due to warnings about strong winds issued by the Thai government.

However, no Malaysians are stranded, although there were reports of foreign tourists being stranded in Phuket two days ago.

“To date, we have not received any reports regarding this issue. We have only received information that some foreign tourists have faced difficulties, but Malaysians with health issues have received assistance from the consulate,” he said.

Thailand's Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation has issued a weather warning for the entire country starting today through the weekend.
