SHAH ALAM, Sept 14 — The career fair in conjunction with the Selangor Aviation Show (SAS) 2024 serves as a vital platform for both employers and job seekers in the aviation industry to connect and explore opportunities.

For employers, the fair offers the chance to identify high-skilled workers for hiring. For job seekers, the initiative provides them with direct access to future potential firms and exciting career opportunities in aviation.

Speaking to Selangor Journal, Airod Aerospace Technology Sdn Bhd human resource executive Muhammad Rizman Azhari said this is one of the best platforms for his company to find quality employees with proper certifications in the aviation industry.

“One of our biggest challenges is that we have a lot of competitors in this industry.

“So, we want to have a strong background, strong brand name for our company to attract employees to join us through this career fair,” he said.

Rizman said one of the main issues affecting local firms is that many prospective job seekers are turning to foreign countries due to more attractive salaries and benefits, something he hopes can change through the organisation of job fairs like this one.

“Here, local employers are able to promote their companies to the job seekers,” he said.

Like Rizman, Subang MRO Sdn Bhd maintenance director K. Parthiban bemoaned tougher competition from foreign firms, particularly from Singapore, that are offering lucrative salaries and actively recruiting local talent.

He added that the Covid-19 pandemic had also affected the Malaysian aviation industry, with many experienced engineers leaving.

“However, the career fair at SAS offers a unique opportunity for our company and others to connect with and recruit highly skilled workers, addressing the current shortage of top talent in the job market,” Parthiban said.

Seeking opportunities

Prospective job seeker Nula Adilla Abdul Rashid, 29, said that while finding career opportunities in the aviation industry is challenging, she is confident that these will be available at the SAS career fair.

“I have been in the industry for about six years now, and I will not lie; it is very hard to find a job. But if you try hard, if you are really passionate about what you do, then I am sure there is something out there for you,” said Nula Adilla, who currently works in fleet and asset management.

“But I think this career fair really helps in the sense that at least there are employers looking to hire and job seekers looking for opportunities in aviation,” she said.

While her career to date has been focused on aviation engineering, Nula Adilla looks to venture into the commercial and sales parts of the industry, something she hopes she can achieve at the job fair.

Meanwhile, Muhammad Erhan Emir, 22, who attended the career fair for a cabin crew job interview, described the challenging job market as a reason for submitting job applications both online and in person.

He noted competition is high as many are eager to work in the aviation industry.

“This is my first attempt (at a career fair). Here, we can be ourselves and portray our confidence, instead of online, where the interviewer may not be able to see the real us,” Erhan said.
