Sarawak Para Sukma 2024: Selangor set 29-gold target, top three finish

SHAH ALAM, Sept 13 — The Selangor contingent will be aiming for 29 gold medals at the 2024 Para Malaysia Games (Sukma) in Sarawak from September 22 to September 28.

State executive councillor for youth, sports, and entrepreneurship Mohd Najwan Halimi said Selangor will take part in all 10 sports contested, namely badminton, swimming, archery, tenpin bowling, chess, athletics, table tennis, boccia, lawn bowls, and powerlifting, with each of them potentially contributing gold.

“With the spirit and aspirations of Selangor, the future host of Sukma in 2026, I am sure you will all prove that our athletes are no less great than other states. Make sure the Selangor flag flies majestically in Sarawak by recording better achievements than the previous edition,” he said.

Najwan was speaking at the flag-handing ceremony of the Selangor state Sukma contingent today, which was also attended by Selangor Disabled Sports and Recreation Association president Amrol Ambia.

He added that Selangor also aims to finish in the top three position with a targeted total collection of 82 medals including 29 gold, 24 silver and 29 bronze, as well as improving the fourth position achieved in the previous edition of the Para Sukma.

Regarding incentives for medal contributors, Najwan said he will discuss the matter with Menteri Besar Dato' Seri Amirudin Shari at the next exco meeting.

“InsyaAllah, I will propose that the state government give incentives with the same amount as given to Sukma athletes in Sarawak before,” he said.

For the Sukma medal winners, the state government offered a reward of RM10,000 to individual athletes who won gold medals, RM5,000 per athlete for team events of under five people, and RM3,000 per athlete for team events of more than five athletes.
