SHAH ALAM, Sept 12 — The Selangor Aviation Show (SAS) plays a crucial role in showcasing the state’s capabilities to the world, said state executive councillor for investment, trade, and mobility Ng Sze Han.

Kicking off its fourth edition today, he said the show, which takes place from September 12 to 14, will introduce several new programmes catering to a wider audience beyond aviation enthusiasts, including an exotic car display.

“I am very proud to announce that this year, we are also hosting the inaugural Women in Aviation Awards,” Ng said in his speech during the SAS 2024 opening ceremony at the Skypark Regional Aviation Centre (RAC) in Bukit Jelutong, here today.

Also in attendance were Raja Muda Selangor Tengku Amir Shah, Selangor state secretary Dato’ Haris Kasim, Menteri Besar Selangor (Incorporated) chief executive officer Saipolyazan M. Yusop, and Invest Selangor Bhd (Invest Selangor) chief executive officer Dato’ Hasan Azhari Idris.

The Women in Aviation Awards, organised in partnership with Women in Aviation Asia, the Business and General Aviation Association of Malaysia, and Women@MAG, recognise and celebrate the remarkable contributions of women in the industry.

“With women making up less than 20 per cent of aviation jobs globally, it is clear that our efforts to create opportunities for everyone in this field must continue,” he said.

For this year’s event, the state is also organising a series of talks and forums on sustainability, supply chain management in business and general aviation, search and rescue operations, medevac, artificial intelligence (AI), education, and space, among other topics.

Ng added that the show will include discussions that aim to provide valuable insights and foster meaningful conversations to influence the future of aviation.

SAS 2024 will include international speakers from the Philippines, Indonesia, Singapore, the United States, and the United Kingdom, who will share their expertise across various disciplines within the industry.

Given the challenges posed by talent and manpower shortages in aviation, Ng said a career fair, in collaboration with the Social Security Organisation, will take place at the show tomorrow.

“This fair will offer numerous opportunities for those looking to expand their careers in the aerospace and aviation sectors.

“We hope that this initiative will help bridge the talent gap and ensure a steady pipeline of skilled professionals for the future,” he said.

This year’s SAS is expected to welcome 25,000 visitors from over 45 countries and showcase 50 types of aircraft on static display, including standout models like the Diamond aircraft, Falcon 8X, and Piaggio Avanti.

The state has also set a target of RM1.3 billion in potential translation value for this edition.
