KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 5 — Selangor’s substantial contribution to the national economy, which amounted to 25.9 per cent in 2023, is an impressive achievement that cannot be overlooked, says Bank Islam group chief executive officer Datuk Mohd Muazzam Mohamed.

He noted that Selangor has consistently played a pivotal role as Malaysia’s primary economic driver, contributing over 25 per cent to the national gross domestic product (GDP) since 2022.

He also lauded the state’s First Selangor Plan (RS-1), saying it has effectively charted a clear path for Selangor’s economic advancement.

“Selangor has long been the driving force behind Malaysia’s economy and remains the largest contributor to the nation’s GDP. There is no denying the significant role Selangor plays.

“Now, the RS-1 framework will guide the state’s ongoing development efforts towards achieving its goal of becoming a high-income, competitive state.

“RS-1 incorporates the spirit of inclusivity, sustainability and innovation to ensure that the prosperity achieved is enjoyed by all, especially the people of Selangor,” he said in his speech at the Bicara Bersama MB dialogue session with Bank Islam at DoubleTree by Hilton here today.

State executive councillor for investment, trade and mobility Ng Sze Han represented Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari, who is currently accompanying Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim on a working visit to Russia.

Muazzam said Ng’s presence today helped convey key insights about Selangor’s economic growth prospects, providing valuable information for analysts, fund managers, corporate partners and potential investors.

“For analysts and fund managers, the insights shared will help you assess how Selangor’s policy direction and development plans may impact various economic sectors, refining your investment strategies for 2025 and beyond.

“Corporate partners and potential investors, on the other hand, will gain a clearer understanding of the opportunities awaiting you in Selangor. Hopefully, this session will assist you in identifying key growth segments and potential collaboration opportunities,” he said.

Muazzam also affirmed Bank Islam’s support for RS-1 and Selangor’s economic growth trajectory.

He announced that BIMB Securities, a subsidiary of Bank Islam, would hold several engagement sessions with major stakeholders to provide in-depth information and insights into Selangor’s economic potential.

“BIMB Securities is planning a series of programmes from now until December 2024 to continue facilitating knowledge sharing and strengthening collaboration.

“Our aim is to equip stakeholders with the necessary knowledge and insights to make informed decisions and face the dynamic economic landscape with greater confidence.

“Bank Islam will continue to support Selangor’s development efforts through strategic and long-term partnerships for the prosperity of all,” he said.
