SHAH ALAM, Sept 3 — Parti Keadilan Rakyat (Keadilan) grassroots members must remain united to strengthen the positions of the current Federal and state government leadership.
Addressing nearly 400 reformists, Keadilan vice-president Dato' Seri Amirudin Shari said all members must find a balance and not compromise the party's core principles.
"Reflect on our history and use it as a lesson to move forward. It is our responsibility to strengthen the leadership's position in Putrajaya and our state governments.
"We must find a balance but not compromise on the party's core principles. It's okay to criticise and be angry, but we must recognise the difference between major and minor setbacks.
“The country is in the process of recovery and the ringgit is rising, but look at what they (Perikatan Nasional) have done?” he said, referring to the unfair criticisms levelled by the opposition.
"That is why we need to have confidence in the experience shown by the leadership, especially looking at the track record of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and our other colleagues,” he said at a Yasin recitation and tahlil ceremony to commemorate the 26th anniversary of the reform movement at his official residence last night.
In view of this, Amirudin, who is Selangor Menteri Besar, urged all party members to consolidate efforts to ensure Anwar remains prime minister for a second term.
“To keep him as prime minister for a second term, everyone needs to help. It’s true that some may disagree because they haven’t met him, but we can still convey our support,” he said.
Meanwhile, Amirudin called on all members not to give up or be swayed by various offers made by opposing parties in the reform struggle.
“God granted victory to our party and Pakatan Rakyat in 2008, and we need to maintain this as the foundation of our reform struggle today.
"Some who seemed formidable in the past have faltered, lost focus, gave up, sulked or stepped down, but Anwar has never shown signs of fatigue or willingness to step down. This is the cornerstone of our current and future success," he said.
