VIENTIANE, Aug 29 — Asean secretary-general Kao Kim Hourn met with Home Affairs Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail here yesterday to discuss the region’s priorities on transnational crime.
The meeting was held on the sidelines of the 18th Asean Ministerial Meeting on Transnational Crime (AMMTC) and its related meetings yesterday, according to a statement from the Asean Secretariat.
During their discussion, the two leaders reviewed Malaysia’s preparations for its upcoming chairmanship of the AMMTC in 2025.
They addressed Malaysia’s role as the Asean Senior Officials’ Meeting on Transnational Crime Voluntary Lead Shepherd for key priority areas, including people smuggling, sea piracy, and money laundering.
Kao also expressed his full support for Malaysia’s chairmanship of Asean in the coming year, with particular emphasis on the AMMTC’s priority areas, the statement added.
