KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 25 — The national men’s doubles pair of Goh Sze Fei-Nur Izzuddin Mohd Rumsani claimed their first victory of the season by defeating South Korean world champions Kang Min Hyuk-Seo Seung Jae at the Japan Open today.
In the action that took place at the Yokohama Arena, the 12th-ranked pair who initially fell behind managed to rise to level the score at 15-15 before ending the match with a 21-19 victory.
The second set saw Sze Fei-Nur Izzudin continue the winning momentum to continue dominating the match before ending the match 21-15 to win the Super 750 tournament and took home US$62,900 (RM274,000) in prize money.
The victory ended the 22-year drought of the national men’s doubles in Japan Open after Chan Chong Ming-Chew Choon Eng last won it in 2002.
Yesterday, the Badminton Association of Malaysia announced it accepted Sze Fei-Nur Izzuddin’s application to go professional from September 1.
