SHAH ALAM, Aug 22 — Over 2.7 million Selangor citizens have invested in Amanah Saham Nasional Bhd (ASNB) units, the highest in the country.
Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said the number of investors involved a subscription value of 72.06 billion units.
“Efforts by PNB (Permodalan Nasional Bhd) to promote unit trust investments are timely. Steps to share financial and investment education with the state’s people must continue.
“It will surely benefit all segments of society, from youth to adults, specifically in planning finances for individuals and families,” he said in a speech today.
He was speaking at the officiation of Minggu Saham Amanah Malaysia (MSAM), which was also attended by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim at the Setia City Convention Centre here today.
Amirudin said this year’s MSAM incorporates science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) elements, in line with efforts to produce holistic talent for the nation and state’s development.
“I am pleased to see STEM elements become a core in MSAM, in line with the state government’s goals in the First Selangor Plan.
“Every year, we allocate over RM20 million to RM30 million for technical and vocational education and training (TVET) programmes, in addition to working with the Education Department to boost TVET, mathematics, science and technology programmes,” he said.
MSAM, which is held until Sunday, offers various activities and engagements to draw participation from all segments of society.
Other than the usual financial literacy and knowledge sharing activities, several unique programmes this year include a Mini Music Festival, Mini Food Carnival (Maybank Islamic MAE and Appetite), and Auto Festival.
About 50 exhibitors comprising PNB companies, ASNB agents, regulatory bodies and state government agencies will hold activities and interesting investment education exhibitions during MSAM.
