KUCHING, Aug 21 — Raja Muda of Selangor Tengku Amir Shah today presented a gold medal to state swimmer Andrew Goh Zheng Yeng, who aced the men’s 50m butterfly event at the 21st Malaysian Games (Sukma) in Sarawak today.
Tengku Amir Shah also presented a silver medal to Melaka’s Joseph Chan Kai Xiang and bronze to Sarawak’s Hector Ho Rze Jun at the Pandelela Rinong Aquatics Centre, Petra Jaya, here.
His Highness was also seen congratulating Andrew, 20, who smashed the national record in the event.
When met during the presentation ceremony, Andrew, who clocked a record-breaking 27.40s in the event, said he was in awe in the presence of Tengku Amir Shah.
“When the commentator announced the presence of Raja Muda Selangor for the medal ceremony at the podium, I was shocked. (His Highness) congratulated me over my success,” he said.
Earlier, His Highness was accompanied by Selangor contingent chief and state executive councillor for youth, sports and entrepreneurship Mohd Najwan Halimi to watch Selangor swimmers compete in various Sukma events.
State swimmers won four gold medals through Andrew, Jayden Goh Li Jie in the men’s 200m individual butterfly, Lim Shun Qi in the women’s 200m individual butterfly, and women’s 4x100m freestyle.
