SABAK BERNAM, Aug 20 — The new bridge connecting Sungai Air Tawar in Sabak Bernam to Hutan Melintang, Perak, is scheduled to be completed by December 2026.
Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said the project, which was initially slated for completion in June 2026, was delayed slightly due to design and land issues.
“The second bridge in Sabak Bernam, part of a federal project costing over RM210 million, connects Sungai Air Tawar to Hutan Melintang, Perak, and includes a u-turn to facilitate road users.
“This bridge will serve residents who currently have to travel 20 to 30km to reach Perak by crossing the existing bridge in Sabak town.
“This project has experienced delays such as issues involving land in Perak as well as the design. With the rescheduling, it is now expected to be completed by December 2026,” he said after visiting the bridge here today.
Amirudin said the bridge will catalyse the success of projects outlined under the Sabak Bernam Development Area (Sabda) initiative.
“We have several specific plans in the works that will be reviewed by Sabda chairman Datuk Rizam Ismail, which will support the development of Sabak Bernam,” he said.
Also present at today’s visit were state executive councillor for infrastructure and agriculture Izham Hashim, state executive councillor for local government and tourism Dato’ Ng Suee Lim, and project director Ahmad Shukri Abd Rashid.
