KUCHING, Aug 18 — Teamwork and determination was the foundation of success for the Selangor men’s golf team, which earned gold in their event at the 2024 Malaysian Games (Sukma) today.
Their performance at Kelab Golf Sarawak saw the team comprising Austin Gan, 19, Poon Jia Hao, 20, Mohamad Ajmal Amin Fajri, 17, and Ezekiel Riz Hafi, 15, defend the state’s gold medal won in the 2022 edition.
Austin, when met during the medal ceremony, expressed his joy over the team’s hat-trick in the event, which has made Selangor proud.
“We came here not for silver or bronze, but with a mission to win gold. Finally, today, we realised that aim and are really happy about this achievement.
“It cannot be denied that one or two of us are very talented, but as a team, we managed to build chemistry and work together towards this success,” he said.
The men’s golf team garnered 659 points in the final event, beating closest competitor Sarawak, which gained 666 points for silver, while Perak won bronze with 669 points.
Ajmal won silver in the individual event, while the women’s golf team also scored silver, with 688 points.
