Sukma 2024: Golden day for men’s golf team

SHAH ALAM, Aug 18 — Day seven of the 21st Malaysian Games (Sukma) in Sarawak will see Selangor’s women’s gymnastics team fight for gold in the baton, ball and ribbon categories.

As at 10pm today, Selangor is in ninth place with five gold, 13 silver and seven bronze.

At 9.53pm, taekwondo exponent Nurul Aesyah Aqilah Mohd Sukeri earned silver in the above-73kg heavyweight category, conceding gold to Sarawak’s Pretty Amisha Amanda Anak Francesca.

At 8.39pm, tenpin bowling trio Nur Irdina Batrisyia Mat Aris, Nur Nais Falilnesa Isman and Afiqah Kamilia Ali won silver with a score of 3,494, losing to Sarawak’s 3,591 pins.

At 4pm, the state sepak takraw squad scored silver in the men’s team event, losing out to Penang in the final at Stadium Muhibah, Bintulu.

Meanwhile, at 3.30pm at Kelab Golf Sarawak, Petra Jaya, the Selangor men’s golf team comprising Austin Gan, Poon Jia Hao, Mohamad Ajmal Amin Fajri dan Ezekiel Riz Hafi scored gold with 659 points today.

At 3pm, The women’s rhythmic gymnastics team delivered silver for Selangor at the Borneo Convention Centre in Kuching, as did archer Nur Ieka Hariesya Zainal Habsahli in the women’s 70m recurve event.

Ajmal won silver in the individual event, while the women’s golf team also scored silver, with 688 points.

At 2pm, muay thai athlete Muhamad Ridzuan Makueta earned the state a bronze medal in the men’s 45-48kg category, defeating Penang’s Mohamad Shahdam Abdul Aziz.

At 1.17pm, shooter Nur Balqis Hamizi earned bronze in the women’s rifle 50m three-position event at the Sarawak Shooting Range, as did the women’s team for the rifle 50m three-position event.

Selangor’s shooting trio contributed bronze in the men’s team 25m standard pistol in Petra Jaya.

At 10.30am, karate exponent B. Jeevesh beat Kelantan’s R. Sashvin to take home bronze for Selangor in the kumite men’s individual event (55kg category).

At 9.45am, petanque athlete Ayzek Hakimi Safingan added a silver to the state’s medal collection in the shooting event at the Sarawak Petanque Centre, Santubong. Melaka’s Khairul Amirul Zamrul Hisham scored gold.

Wushu proponent Mandy Cebelle Chen was the first local athlete to garner two gold medals, in the women’s taijiquan and taijijian events, at SSC Wushu Hall in Kuching, on Wednesday and Thursday.

On Thursday, lawn bowls athlete Adania Mohd Redzwan won silver in the women’s singles tenpin bowling event at Megalanes Emart in Batu Kawa, Kuching.

Meanwhile, on Friday, the women’s lawn bowls team comprising Damia Aleesya Mohd Irmantaha, Nur Dina Najwa Tarmizy Abdullah, Nur Najwa Batrisyia Mustakim, Nurul Ain Ibrahim, and Puteri Aira Azman Shah, won gold in the women’s fours event at the Sarawak Lawn Bowls Arena in Kuching.

Their victory was followed by compatriot Nur Najla Damia Mustakim’s silver in the lawn bowls women’s singles event at the Sarawak Lawn Bowls Arena in Kuching.

Meanwhile, another wushu athlete, Batrisyia Izzati, contributed a silver to the state in the women’s sanda 48kg category at the Sarawak Wushu Stadium in Kuching.

Her compatriot Felicity Wong also won silver in the women’s sanda 52kg category at the same venue.

The day ended with another silver from Intan Nor Edryana dan Adania Mohd Redzwan in the tenpin bowling women’s doubles event at Megalanes Emart in Batu Kawa, Kuching.

Yesterday, the state won a kumite gold through G. Srikah in the 55kg women’s category and bronze through B. Jeevesh in the 55kg men’s category, at Institut Kemahiran Belia Negara, Miri.

Meanwhile, Selangor’s rhythmic gymnasts scored silver in the team event at the Borneo Convention Centre in Kuching, while the men’s sepak takraw team also won silver in their match against Penang at Stadium Muhibah in Bintulu.
