SHAH ALAM, Aug 17 — Ampang Jaya Municipal Council (MPAJ) personnel faced provocation and unfounded allegations while conducting inspections on traders at Taman Lembah Maju A recently.
Referring to viral recordings on social media, it said that the children of one trader obstructed and demeaned MPAJ personnel as they carried out their duties at the trading site on Wednesday (August 14)
MPAJ added that its personnel were also verbally abused and prevented from inspecting conditions inside the stalls, who instead could only take photographs at the same site at 9am on Thursday (August 15).
“All allegations directed at MPAJ staff are unfounded and there has been no abuse of power, given that monitoring is carried out on all traders,” it said in a statement today.
An examination of the viral recordings found several individuals questioning the issuance of fines by MPAJ enforcement officers, as well as making various accusations.
The council said that the inspection covered licence status, types of business, stall conditions, and licence compliance, including issues like water and electricity supply and the provision of four bins.
Fines were imposed on traders for operating without a licence and breaching licensing conditions by employing foreign workers.
MPAJ also lodged a report at the Pandan Indah police station at 11:31pm on Thursday and hopes its statement provides a clear picture of the events at the trading site.
