SHAH ALAM, Aug 17 — The state government is making early preparations to face the monsoon season, which is expected to start in November, with all machinery on high alert.
State executive councillor for disaster management Najwan Halimi said they have identified hotspot locations and flood-prone areas throughout Selangor.
“The hotspot areas being monitored include Hulu Langat, which is always targeted for flood management. Additionally, Sungai Buloh is also under close observation.
“The Selangor Disaster Management Unit has visited each district to identify all issues and problems in making preparations,” he said when contacted today.
Najwan added that most local authorities are also conducting simulations, especially in areas identified as being at risk of flash floods.
“The local authorities involved are conducting simulation exercises with security agencies including the Royal Malaysia Police, the Malaysian Armed Forces, the Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department, and the Malaysian Civil Defence Force in Selangor.
“Meanwhile, each state executive councillor, state assemblyman, and state constituency coordinator have also been given their respective roles to monitor in case of any disasters,” he said.
