GUA MUSANG, Aug 13 — Barisan Nasional (BN) will not launch a manifesto for the Nenggiri state by-election but will instead offer only one thing — its representative’s commitment to listen to the people and solve their problems.
Kelantan BN chairman Datuk Seri Ahmad Jazlan Yaakub said there was no point in launching a comprehensive manifesto if the promises are not fulfilled.
"For the by-election this time, we will not release a manifesto, we only have one ‘simple manifesto’ ... if our representative is given the mandate by the people, he will serve and delve into the problems of the people of Nenggiri,” he said at a press conference here yesterday.
"The important thing is that we serve the people — what's the point of launching a manifesto if, till today, the (promises of the) 1990 election manifesto have not been carried out?"
Ahmad Jazlan, who is also the Kelantan Umno liaison committee chairman, said he will leave it to the maturity of the voters to make a decision.
The Nenggiri by-election on Saturday will see a straight clash between BN candidate Mohd Azmawi Fikri Abdul Ghani representing the Unity Government and PAS candidate Mohd Rizwadi Ismail representing Perikatan Nasional (PN).
The seat was declared vacant by Kelantan state assembly speaker Datuk Mohd Amar Nik Abdullah on June 19, following Mohd Azizi Abu Naim's expulsion from Bersatu on June 13.
