HULU SELANGOR, Aug 5 — Flood victims from five villages in Hulu Bernam praised the state government's swift action in providing them with early assistance.

Kampung Masjid resident Norehan Malek, 48, said Selangor has never neglected to deliver direct aid to residents affected by the floods.

“I have lived in this area since 2004, experienced four floods, and the Selangor government, along with other agencies, non-governmental organisations (NGOs), and village heads, have always acted quickly to provide aid to us.

“I would also like to thank Menteri Besar Selangor (Incorporated) or MBI for providing RM500 in cash aid. I will use it to clean my house, which is in a mess after being flooded with four feet of water,” she said.

Similarly, Kampung Sungai Seli resident Mohd Amir Alias, 53, said he appreciates MBI's concern in providing cash assistance, which helped to reduce his burden after his house was flooded.

“Heavy rain since 5am yesterday caused the house to be flooded, greatly affecting me and my wife, who is currently suffering from a stroke.

“Thanks to MBI, and this cash aid will be used for cleaning my house, which is now dirtied with mud,” he said.

Meanwhile, Hulu Selangor Parliamentary coordinator Dr Sathia Prakash Nadarajan said 143 residents from 50 families were placed in the temporary relief centre (PPS) at Dewan Serbaguna Kampung Sekolah in Kuala Kubu Baharu.

The PPS' occupants consist of residents from Kampung Serigala, Kampung Sungai Nilam, Kampung Sekolah, Kampung Masjid, and Kampung Paya Lebar.

“The flooding in all five villages has receded, and the victims placed in the PPS are expected to return to their homes shortly.

“The focus now is on cleanliness, with cleaning work to be carried out at their homes. There is an infant in the PPS who is having a fever, so we do not want the spread of disease as a result of this flooding,” he said.
