Selangor’s Merdeka celebration to start Aug 30 — Amirudin

SHAH ALAM, Aug 5 — The state’s 67th Merdeka celebration is set for August 30 at Dataran Kemerdekaan Shah Alam in Seksyen 14, said Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari.

He said about 10,000 visitors are expected to attend the celebration, which will feature a range of engaging activities.

“The celebration will include performances by marching teams, the presentation of the state’s Merdeka Awards, and many more,” he said, after a monthly Selangor civil servant assembly at Dewan Jubli Perak here today.

Amirudin said he has instructed local authorities and community service centres across the state to distribute Jalur Gemilang for free.

“The flags will be handed out to households in both rural and urban areas. I have directed the purchase of these flags be completed this week to enhance Merdeka festivities,” he added.

“Flying the flag symbolises the spirit of an independent nation, a sentiment we must cultivate in the hearts of our people and our children who represent the future generation,” he said.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, during the launch of the Merdeka month and Fly the Jalur Gemilang campaign, urged Malaysians from all walks of life to embrace the spirit of independence by flying the Jalur Gemilang at their homes and offices.

Anwar expressed hope that all Malaysians will participate in this year’s Merdeka and Malaysia Day celebrations, with the theme Malaysia Madani: Jiwa Merdeka.
