SHAH ALAM, Aug 2 — KDEB Waste Management (KDEBWM) is looking into opening more Automatic Drive-Through Recycling Centre (ADTRec).

Its managing director Dato’ Ramli Mohd Tahir said Hulu Selangor, Ampang and Petaling Jaya are among areas being shortlisted for the expansion of the initiative.

“We have held talks with several local councils and are analysing and identifying suitable sites.

“If there are suitable areas, God willing, we will pursue new investments to open more ADTRec units.

“ADTRec is a new phenomenon that encourages the public to recycle (at any hour of the day),” he said when contacted.

Previously, Ramli said ADTRec, which was launched in March at the Cyberjaya Recycling Centre, successfully collected 1.7 tonnes of recyclables between April and mid-May.

ADTRec is an automated, CCTV-equipped, 24-hour drive-through recycling centre that aims to encourage recycling in the community.

Recognised as the Best Innovative Recycling Service Provider at the PC.Com Awards recently, ADTRec provides facilities to recycle paper, old newspaper, plastic bottles, wires, and more.

Also recognised at the PC.Com Awards was KDEBWM’s complaints app, iClean Selangor, which was named Best Public Service App for the second year running.

Ramli said iClean Selangor has logged 150,000 active users.

He said the app, launched in 2016, efficiently solves problems by detecting the location of registered complainants.

The app employs geolocation to detect complainants’ localities via their smartphones to allow rapid solutions.

“To ensure iClean’s wide reach, KDEBWM actively promotes it on social media and other channels,” Ramli said, adding that the firm targets 200,000 active users by year-end.

iClean Selangor, available on Google Play and the App Store, enables residents to submit complaints about solid (domestic, bulk and public) waste collection.

On the app, complainants need only submit the local council name, select a complaint type, and explain the issue. The app detects the complainant’s location and allows them to upload supporting pictures.
