SHAH ALAM, Aug 1 — Menteri Besar Dato' Seri Amirudin Shari has extended his congratulations to national badminton athletes Pearly Tan and M. Thinaah for advancing into the semi-finals of the 2024 Paris Olympic Games.
"Congratulations to the Malaysian badminton pair, Pearly Tan and Thinaah Muralitharan, who have made history as the first Malaysian Women's Doubles team to advance to the semi-finals of the Olympics," he said in a Facebook post tonight.
Adding that Tan and Thinaah will be competing at 2.30pm tomorrow, Amirudin called upon the public to watch the match and support the nation's heroines.
His congratulations come in the wake of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's earlier today, who also extended his best wishes to the world’s 12th-ranked pair.
“Alhamdulillah, congratulations to these two outstanding athletes for making history as Malaysia’s first women’s doubles team to advance to the Olympic semi-finals.
“Remain calm and focused, and may you achieve great success!” Anwar said.
In the quarter-finals at the Porte de La Chapelle Arena, Tan and Thinaah defeated South Korean pair Kim So Yeong and Kong Hee Yong, who are ranked 10th in the world, in straight sets.
They will face the world’s number one pair from China, Chen Qing Chen and Jia Yi Fan, in the semi-finals tomorrow.
