KUALA LUMPUR, July 30 — The Malaysian Athletics Federation (MAF) has proposed the government set up a sports university.
MAF president Datuk Seri Shahidan Kassim said the suggestion was among major decisions proposed and agreed by affiliates at the federation’s annual general meeting on Sunday.
Shahidan said the sports university would ensure youth, especially school leavers, can continue to pursue their dreams towards sporting excellence, and feed the Malaysian talent pool.
“I feel the time has come to set up a dedicated sports university as the aspect of high performance sports excellence must be given priority,” he said in a video uploaded to Facebook yesterday.
Shahidan said he is prepared to discuss the proposal with the Higher Education Ministry.
