KUALA LUMPUR, June 26 — The gross domestic product (GDP) of micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) grew 5.0 per cent in 2023 — outpacing Malaysia economic growth of 3.6 per cent — with a value added of RM613.1 billion.
According to the Statistics Department (DOSM), the industry contributed 39.1 per cent to Malaysia’s economy last year.
Chief statistician Datuk Seri Mohd Uzir Mahidin said the services and manufacturing sectors were the main contributors, comprising 84.8 per cent of the MSMEs’ GDP.
“The agriculture sector contributed 9.1 per cent, followed by the construction (4.5 per cent) and mining and quarrying (0.5 per cent) sectors,” he said in a statement today.
