Police training institute instructors must have bachelor's degree at least — IGP

KUALA LUMPUR, July 19 — All candidates who intend to serve at Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) training institutes must have at least a bachelor’s degree, said Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Tan Sri Razarudin Husain.

The decision was made following a study on institute instructors and lecturers, with an emphasis on their academic qualifications.

“As a pioneer (project), four PDRM training institutes — Kuala Lumpur PDRM College, Kuala Kubu Baharu PDRM College, Kuala Lumpur Pulapol, and Bukit Sentosa Pulapol — are implementing the decision.

“PDRM is also upgrading the Kuala Lumpur PDRM College into a research hub for all aspects of policing, especially relating to cyber security and prevention of drug abuse,” he said during the July monthly gathering with the IGP organised by the Bukit Aman Management Department today.

Razarudin added that the move is in line with technological developments and new forms of crime with challenging modus operandi.

“I am convinced that the collaboration between local and foreign knowledge can contribute to academic findings that can benefit the force and the community,” he said.

Razarudin said the review of the Basic Policing Training Programme Syllabus Module will also be implemented as an improvement to nurture competent human capital through the Malaysian Qualifications Agency accredited policing training programme.

PDRM's intention is to achieve the targeted intake of 4,441 people for the PDRM Service Scheme Appointment Grade before the end of this year.

“From January until July 1, 3,482 male and female trainees have undergone the Basic Policing Training Programme for Police Inspector Grade YA13, Police Sergeant YA5 and Police Constable Grade YA1 at seven police training centres in the country,” he said.

This development meant they were able to achieve 78.4 per cent of this year’s target so far.
