SHAH ALAM, July 15 — Even after decades of occupancy, 549 low-cost housing schemes in the state remain without strata ownership status.

State executive councillor for housing and culture Borhan Aman Shah said the Selangor government, through its Budget 2025, will focus on enabling homeowners to obtain grants, preserving the value of their properties.

“It is true that many strata housing developments, particularly those from the 1990s, have not been granted ownership rights. This issue mainly affects low-cost housing, and we anticipate more apartments will face the same problem.

“We have identified this issue is prevalent in areas governed by the Petaling Jaya City Council and Kajang Municipal Council. In next year’s budget, we aim to address this problem that has persisted for the past 20 to 30 years,” he said.

Borhan said a special task force has been established, involving the Selangor Housing and Property Board, local councils, Land and Mines Office, and Survey and Mapping Department, to review the matter.

“We will examine all aspects and important elements before presenting it to the state administration. We hope this matter will be included in the coming budget,” he said.

Yesterday, Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said the issue of strata property ownership will be tackled more vigorously from next year through Selangor Budget 2025, ensuring residents receive grants for their assets.

Amirudin said the state government will prioritise this matter as it has been plaguing owners for decades.
