SHAH ALAM, July 11 — The construction of the Shah Alam Sports Complex (KSSA) will not involve swapping 1,277ha of land on Pulau Carey owned by Yayasan Selangor, Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari said today.
Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari said the land on Pulau Carey will instead be used to develop the Pulau Carey Port, which is the responsibility of the Selangor State Development Corporation (PKNS).
“There is no plan to transfer ownership. The land will be used as capital for the state government to hold a minimum 20 per cent (stake) in the operation and development of the third port.
“We learnt that in the operations of Northport and Westports, income flowed in the form of taxes, there were no efforts to transfer,” he said when winding up the First Selangor Plan mid-term review at the Selangor State Legislative Assembly sitting here today.
He said the state has a year to solve the issue of transferring land to the Malaysian Resources Corporation Bhd (MRCB) for the development of KSSA.
Potential sites have been identified in Kuala Langat and Hulu Selangor, and discussions between MRCB and the State Secretary, representing Menteri Besar Selangor (Incorporated) (MBI), are ongoing, Amirudin said.
He added that the demolition of the old Shah Alam Stadium, which will take a year, is being done according to terms set by the local council and with consideration for the surrounding commercial and residential areas.
“Noise cannot exceed 7dB using conventional methods (of demolition). Explosives are not the best choice as they will affect the surrounding residential areas.
“Some stadium assets can be reused, such as the chairs, which can be given to other stadiums in Sabak Bernam, Sungai Besar and Selayang,” he said.
MBI earlier said the tri-phase development of KSSA will be completed in 2029.
