SHAH ALAM, July 10 — The Selangor government has allocated RM600,000 to fund the tertiary education, from diploma to doctorate, of 33 women.

Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said the scholarship, under the Lifelong Learning Programme, has been disbursed since 2021, covering courses in various fields including business and political science.

“The first and second cohorts involved RM400,000 for 24 students. This time, it involves nine students at a cost of RM200,000.

“For this third cohort, we received 122 applications, but only 21 were shortlisted. We then decided on nine women eligible for the assistance,” he said after handing over the scholarships here today.

Amirudin said the scholarship under the Women’s Leadership Academy (AKW) will continue to ensure participants gain valuable skills that can contribute to income enhancement.

“This scholarship focuses on studies that contribute to the advancement of the care economy, such as health sciences and guidance and counselling,” he said.

In addition to the Lifelong Learning Programme, the state government, through the AKW, offers a skills enhancement programme for women aged 21 to 45, serving as a talent pipeline to produce more female leaders in politics and social work.

The four main learning modules are human and organisational skills, gender understanding, political and economic leadership, and communication skills.
