SHAH ALAM, July 10 — The Selangor government has implemented several strategies to develop Serendah as the national hub for logistics, transportation and auto manufacturing, said the state executive councillor for trade, investment, and mobility Ng Sze Han.
Speaking during the State Legislative Assembly session today, he explained that major investments from automakers have established Serendah as a nucleus for auto manufacturing.
"Major companies such as Perodua, Tan Chong Motor, UMW Aerospace, and various automotive vendors have established factories in the area.

“The development of the Serendah High-Value Manufacturing Park by UMW Development Sdn Bhd has further attracted investments, following the relocation of UMW's headquarters from Shah Alam to Serendah and investments from (leading solar panel manufacturer) LONGi Malaysia Sdn Bhd.
"Additionally, the Sungai Buaya area has seen significant development with investments from Brem Construction and MJD Development," he said.
Ng was responding to a question from Kuala Kubu Baharu state assemblyman Pang Sock Tao on the types of development being brought to Serendah and its surrounding areas to spur economic growth.
On the transportation and logistics industries, he said the development of the East Coast Rail Link (ECRL) has created new opportunities for Serendah.
"The establishment of the Serendah station, which will serve as a rail junction connecting Malaysia’s east coast, southern and northern regions, positions Serendah as a central point for logistics and distribution.
“The ECRL will facilitate the distribution of goods to the east, namely Kuantan Port, and from the east to Port Klang and Penang Port, through the Serendah station. It will also serve as a passenger station,” Ng said.
The councillor added that investments in logistics companies and downstream activities related to transport manufacturing are expected to expand in the Serendah area, reinforcing its role as a national transportation hub.
In May, Transport Minister Anthony Loke said that Serendah is set to be transformed into one of Malaysia’s primary logistics hubs thanks to a transit station that will be operational there once the ECRL project connecting Kota Bharu and Port Klang is completed.
This would encourage further economic activities in the area, including the import and export of goods.
“There are many factories operating here in Serendah, some near Tanjong Malim, which is an automotive hub. Serendah will soon be a logistics hub for transporting goods and cars via rail.
“This will open up numerous job opportunities and address any unemployment issues,” he said during the Unity Government’s mega ceramah in Batang Kali, in conjunction with the Kuala Kubu Baharu by-election.
At the same event, Ng said that since 2020, the area, which is renowned for its automotive and electronic industries and is home to the operations of major companies like UMW and Perodua, has recorded up to RM2.7 billion in investment values.
