SHAH ALAM, June 24 — Menteri Besar Selangor (Incorporated), or MBI, has contributed RM200,000 to the state’s archery and rugby squads to help them prepare for the Malaysia Games (Sukma) in Sarawak next month.
Its chief executive officer Saipolyazan M Yusop said the donations were handed over to the Selangor Archery Association and Selangor Rugby Union, with each receiving RM100,000.
“The sponsorship of these two sports is meant to realise their objectives for Sukma, including preparing the athletes in terms of training and equipment.
“In addition, MBI aims to empower the state's athletes and support the continuous search for new talent,” he said in his speech at MBI’s headquarters today.
Saipolyazan handed over the contribution to representatives of both sports entities, witnessed by the state executive councillor for sports Mohd Najwan Halimi.
Meanwhile, Najwan welcomed cooperation from the private sector and state government subsidiaries in an effort to promote Selangor's sports.
This is in light of the high expenditure involved in the state’s participation in the upcoming Sukma due to the inclusion of 37 sports events and the hosting of some of these games in remote locations.
"We encourage state government subsidiaries to get involved and become sponsors for various sports.
"We hope this will provide moral support to the Selangor contingent," he said.
