SHAH ALAM, June 22 — The local authorities and government agencies in the state will highlight its identity to foreign delegations to promote the Visit Selangor Year 2025 intiative.

State executive councillor for culture Borhan Aman Shah said directives would be issued through a circular in the near future, and that the matter has already been communicated to the Selangor State Executive Council.

“It involves food, performances, and souvenirs. Selangor has many unique dishes, including nasi ambeng, punten, and soto. So these foods can be served to visiting guests.

“The ronggeng, cempuling, and keroncong dances can also be performed. These are our traditional dances. For souvenirs, replicas of the wau kapal or Selangor embroidered batik fabric, which has been gazetted as the state's identity, can be given,” he said.

Borhan was speaking to the press after a town hall public dialogue session with state culture and arts non-governmental organisations (NGO) yesterday.

He also encouraged all parties, especially NGOs, to actively organise events and artistic activities that highlight the state's identity, so as to further promote Selangor.

“Next year, Selangor aims to attract seven million international tourists. This opportunity needs to be utilised so it can be promoted and subsequently recognised,” he said.

Meanwhile, on the session, the councillor said it served as a platform for cultural and arts practitioners to express their views in order to further advance the sector.

“Nearly 200 active culture and arts practitioners participated. This is a very good exposure. The programme ran smoothly and managed to address various issues.

“This is a measuring stick for us to secure more allocations in the upcoming state budget,” he said.
