Objections to new MBSA assessment rates can be made till Friday

SHAH ALAM, June 11 — The public can still submit objections to the new assessment rates to the Shah Alam City Council (MBSA) until Friday.

Shah Alam Mayor Dato’ Fauzi Yatim said the new rate will not exceed 25 per cent, and that a review of the rate was only done after 19 years to ensure efficient services for the people.

Fauzi said the council is ready to meet property owners who are against the new rates in a special hearing to be held after the objection period.

“There are those who disagree with the assessment rate hike, but MBSA needs to be financially sound to best serve the people.

“We need it (the rate hike). The hike does not exceed 25 per cent from the previous rate, but we have received objections and will call property owners for a hearing,” he said.

From May 9 to June 6, MBSA received 1,900 objections from property owners about the new assessment rate, which takes effect next January.

Residences, businesses, industrial areas and vacant lots (agriculture) are subject to the new assessment rate, while places of worship, schools and not-for-profit public premises are excluded.
