KLANG, June 11 — The state government has sponsored RM1 million for the Sultan of Selangor's Cup (TSSC) football tournament, which will take place on August 17 at Stadium Merdeka.
The presentation of the mock cheques to the Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaj was made by State Financial Officer Datuk Ahmad Fadzli Ahmad Tajuddin at Istana Alam Shah yesterday.
At the event, TSSC's organisers also received sponsorship from seven state government subsidiaries, including RM200,000 from Menteri Besar Selangor (Incorporated) or MBI.
Permodalan Negeri Selangor Berhad, Worldwide Holdings Berhad, and KDEB Waste Management each contributed RM100,000.
Meanwhile, Kumpulan Semesta Sdn Bhd, Pengurusan Air Selangor Sdn Bhd, and Syarikat Koridor Utiliti Selangor each sponsored RM50,000.

Also in attendance at the event were Raja Muda Selangor Tengku Amir Shah, TSSC chairman cum team manager Tan Sri Abd Karim Munisar, state executive councillor for youth and sports Mohd Najwan Halimi, state executive councillor for housing and culture Borhan Aman Shah, and state executive councillor for rural development, unity, and consumer affairs Datuk Rizam Ismail.
Meanwhile, in his speech, Abdul Karim expressed his gratitude and extended his thanks to all TSSC 2024 sponsors.
“Although the economic situation is better compared to during the Covid-19 pandemic, the slowdown can still be felt, and the efforts to invigorate TSSC 2024 are quite challenging.
This situation has caused several corporate companies to withdraw as sponsors. Therefore, I extend my gratitude to the state government and all the sponsors of this tournament,” he said.
Abdul Karim also urged the public to purchase tickets, which are priced as low as RM10, and will be made available a month before the match date.
TSSC is an annual friendly tournament between Selangor FC and the Singaporean national football team, first established in 2001.
Selangor has won the title nine times: in 2001, 2003, 2005, 2008, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2018, and 2019.
Singapore has won the title seven times: in 2006, 2007, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2016, and 2017.
