SHAH ALAM, June 9 — The Selangor Water Management Authority (Luas) has taken swift action to curb potential water pollution after a foamy discharge was briefly detected in Sungai Gombak yesterday afternoon.

It said the discharge was detected at around 1pm, during which a diesel-like odour was also noticed.

"The Luas team promptly conducted an inspection at the location, where it is suspected that machinery cleaning activities were carried out. The wash-off may have flowed into the premises' drains, then into a treatment pond, and eventually into the nearby river," it said in a Facebook post yesterday.

The team also collected samples from relevant locations at the premises and sent them to the Chemistry Department for further analysis.

Subsequently, Luas conducted an all-day inspection to identify the source of the foamy discharge. At 8pm, it was detected again at the Gombak Water Treatment Plant.

"The Luas team took samples to identify the discharge's contents. The situation is currently under control, and the team, along with Air Selangor, is investigating the source upstream of Sungai Gombak and its related tributaries," Luas said.

In a separate Facebook post today, it said the investigations were carried out until 4am, but with no traces found.

"The investigation was halted at 4am due to access constraints, darkness, and dense forest areas.

"The investigation will resume (later) today to identify the source of the foamy discharge and take appropriate actions to prevent its recurrence," Luas said.
