Back-to-school aid distribution nearly complete — MBI

SABAK BERNAM, June 7 — Over 90 per cent of the 16,800 students from low-income families in Selangor have received back-to-school aid from Menteri Besar Selangor (Incorporated), or MBI, since March.

MBI social responsibility and corporate communications head Ahmad Azri Zainal Nor said the RM100 cash aid under the state’s back-to-school programme is aimed at alleviating the burdens of those in need.

He said the students were identified by state constituency offices, before being assessed by MBI to ensure only those eligible would receive the aid.

“Only one or two state constituencies remain where the assistance has not yet been distributed to the recipients yet. We expect it to be completed soon,” he said at an event to hand out the aid to 300 students in the Sabak constituency today.

“This aid is part of this year’s allocation, but we were only able to deliver it today. Hopefully, it will reduce the burden on parents.”

MBI has earmarked RM1.7 million this year to help 16,800 students from underprivileged families across Selangor purchase school supplies.

Last year, the state subsidiary allocated over RM10 million to enhance the education sector, including for the Selangor People’s Tutoring Programme, schooling aid and infrastructure contributions.
