National Unity Week 2024 set to showcase Malaysia's diversity

KUALA LUMPUR, May 15 — The National Unity Week 2024 celebration from May 23 to May 26 in Johor Bahru, Johor, will showcase the country's rich diversity of races and customs.

The National Unity Ministry’s community development division undersecretary Zaimy Shaari said the four-day programme, to be held at Padang Angsana and Begonia Angsana Johor Bahru Mall, will offer a variety of exciting programmes for the public to appreciate the value of unity.

Themed ‘Unity in Diversity’, it aims to strengthen unity among Malaysians with multiple cultures, customs, and beliefs based on three principles, namely understanding, respect and acceptance.

“This time around, there will be a unique ‘Rumah Kami’ exhibition featuring houses representing 22 ethnic groups alongside the Orang Asli settlement and the Iban longhouse, which will provide the public with insights into the culture and traditions of these ethnic groups.

“An exciting lineup of events await visitors such as traditional sports, exhibitions, cross-cultural performances and Rahmah Sales,” he said as a guest on Bernama TV’s ‘Apa Khabar Malaysia’ programme today.

Zaimy added that Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim is scheduled to officiate the opening ceremony of the National Unity Week 2024 celebration on May 25.

The government has designated the National Unity Week celebration to be held during the last week of May annually.
