PUTRAJAYA, May 13 — The Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) has been instructed to cut down high-risk trees after another tree toppled in the rain today, just a week after a similar, fatal incident on Jalan Sultan Ismail.
Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Federal Territories) Dr Zaliha Mustafa said DBKL has been directed to improve its Shade Tree Management Plan and to develop new guidelines for aged or high-risk trees to prevent similar incidents.
“To ensure environmental sustainability is preserved and given attention, DBKL needs to enhance its tree replacement programme, including by examining methods to ensure the trees remain solid and safe in the long term,” she said in a statement today.
It was reported another tree fell along Jalan Pinang here today, damaging several vehicles but narrowly missing a car carrying Melaka Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh.
On May 7, a man was killed while two others suffered injuries when a huge tree fell on 17 vehicles along Jalan Sultan Ismail, just outside the Concorde Hotel, during a thunderstorm.
