SHAH ALAM, May 11 — Selangor FC winger Faisal Halim is in stable condition after a successful third surgery involving a skin allograft, though the next two weeks have been deemed crucial to his recovery.
State executive councillor for youth, sports and entrepreneurship Najwan Halimi said recovery for the 25-year-old national footballer, who was a victim of a recent acid attack, will be a long one.
“Faisal is currently in stable condition in the intensive care unit, but the next two weeks are crucial considering the skin allograft procedure requires him to be isolated under strict monitoring by the medical team.
“During this period, Faisal is not permitted to receive any visitors,” he said in a statement today.
“The treatment and recovery process is expected to be quite lengthy. However, Faisal is regaining his spirit and truly appreciates the prayers and concern shown by the people and his fans.”
On May 5, Faisal was attacked with acid by two unknown individuals at a shopping centre in Petaling Jaya.
He suffered fourth-degree burns on several parts of his body, with the injuries also limiting his movement and speech.
Faisal, fondly known as “Mickey”, gained international fame when his goal against South Korea at the Asian Cup in January was voted goal of the tournament.
Meanwhile, Manchester United players wished the Penang-born player a speedy recovery in a 27-second video, which was uploaded on Stadium Astro’s Instagram page.
Goalkeeper Andre Onana and midfielder Alejandro Garnacho, who were speaking on behalf of their teammates, expressed their concern and acknowledged that Faisal and his family are going through a challenging time.
“We heard what happened. We feel for you, we are with you,” said Onana.
“We want to wish you all the best. Keep fighting, we are with you, brother.”
