Port Klang high tide: Local council on 24/7 flood watch

KLANG, May 7 — The Klang Royal City Council (MBDK) is on standby round the clock to respond to any potential flooding following a high tide warning throughout this week.

Its Mayor Datin Paduka Noraini Roslan said the local authority also previously conducted drainage cleaning to minimise flood risk.

“We have our Special Action Squad (Pantas), which responds swiftly to disasters and is also the quickest to report on them.

“I would also like to note that MBDK has cleaned the drainage system in locations at high risk of flash floods. We hope residents will also play their part in upkeeping their surroundings,” she said.

Noraini was speaking during the officiation of MBDK’s Hari Raya Aidilfitri open house at Dewan MBDK Bukit Raja yesterday.

Yesterday, the Selangor Irrigation and Drainage Department urged the public to be wary of a high tide phenomenon in Port Klang, which is expected to persist until Friday (May 10).

In a Facebook post, it shared an infographic indicating that the sea water level reached 5.3 metres yesterday and warned that a similar reading is expected on Thursday (May 9) between 4pm and 7pm.

The water level is forecast to rise to 5.4 metres today and tomorrow, while the reading is projected to be at 5.1 metres on Friday.
