PUTRAJAYA, May 3 — The public has been told not to worry about the hot weather in several states as the situation is being closely monitored by the Health Ministry (MOH), said its minister Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad.
MOH will promptly announce school closures, if any, based on a study by Health director-general Datuk Seri Dr Muhammad Radzi Abu Hassan, Dr Dzulkefly told the media at the the Medical Devices Authority’s (MDA) Excellent Service Award Ceremony here today.
Dr Dzulkefly was asked about the need to close schools due to the heat wave, after Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability Minister Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad yesterday said the hot weather following the El Nino phenomenon is expected to continue until July.
He said the existing standard operating procedure (SOP) for hot weather, including limiting outdoor activities in schools, remains, with the Education Ministry instructed not to allow students to partake in outdoor activities if the temperature is more than 35ºC for three consecutive days.
