World Central Kitchen resuming operations in Gaza after deadly Israeli strike

MOSCOW, April 29 — US-based World Central Kitchen (WCK) charity said on Sunday it was resuming operations in the Gaza Strip while continuing to mourn the death of seven workers killed in an Israeli strike on April 1.

“We have 276 trucks, with the equivalent of almost 8 million meals, ready to enter through the Rafah Crossing. We’ll also send trucks from Jordan,” ECK chief executive Erin Gore said, reported Sputnik.

To date, the food charity has distributed more than 43 million meals in the Palestinian enclave, which WCK says accounts for 62 per cent of all international NGO aid in Gaza.

The Israeli airstrike on the aid convoy prompted condemnation from the United States and other traditional allies of Israel. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said the strike was unintended.

WCK said that while it had no concrete assurances from Israel, it would continue advocating for change so that NGO workers were better protected. It also demanded an unbiased international probe into the attack.
