Only five pct of Rukun Tetangga Areas inactive — National Unity D-G

PADANG BESAR, March 1 — Presently, nearly 8,500 Rukun Tetangga Areas (KRT) are recorded nationwide, with less than five per cent of this number have been found to be inactive.

National Unity Ministry secretary-general Datuk Azman Mohd Yusof said the number of KRT nationwide indicates increased involvement of youths in KRT activities, which will be able to diversify the programme's implementation instead of just focusing on the responsibility of looking after the neighbourhood.

"Alhamdulillah, in Perlis, there are 140 KRT, and what I see today is that many young people are involved. It is unlike before...now the younger generation also has its own tasks in the KRT.

"When there are young people, there will be development of activities, like in the economy, security, community resilience, and education," he told Bernama after officiating the Taman Padang Besar Indah KRT today.

Azman also called for more people of various ages to join the KRT.

"Each age group has its individual tasks (so) we need each other. It is mostly young people who engage in economic activities in the KRT, so with their respective tasks like these, they can make the KRT more efficient in the future," he added.
