SABAK BERNAM, Feb 24 — The Selangor Women’s Welfare and Charity Organisation (Pekawanis) implements welfare programmes which are inclusive of all groups, including children and single mothers.

Its chairman Datin Seri Masdiana Muhamad said the organisation allocated RM130,440 for the Back to School programme benefitting 860 students last year.

"Additionally, for Chinese New Year donations, we allocated RM188,700 to 1,020 single mothers. All welfare and religious programmes will continue this year.

"As Ramadan approaches, we will distribute bubur lambuk and hold the Darul Ehsan Berselawat programme. Pekawanis is always concerned about organising welfare programmes regardless of background, ethnicity, religion, and political beliefs," she said yesterday.

Masdiana was speaking her speech to Tengku Permaisuri Selangor Tengku Permaisuri Norashikin, as part of the Ziarah Kasih programme in northern Selangor for two days starting yesterday.

Meanwhile, single mother Rosiah Mokhtar, 62, expressed joy at meeting the Tengku Permaisuri and receiving cash assistance.

"Previously, I had never received assistance for single mothers because my husband recently passed away due to nasal cancer last year.

"This assistance can somewhat alleviate my burden. I am also very happy because Her Royal Highness presented the assistance," she said.

Student Nur Qaseh Qaleesya Mohd Shahazwan, 13, said she is grateful for receiving school assistance as it helps her mother, who has to support four other siblings still in school.

"My mother has to support the five of us for school and only works as a daycare assistant. I am happy to receive this assistance because I can get a new school bag for next month," she said.
