SHAH ALAM, Feb 16 — The glow-in-the-dark road project in Selangor  will expand across 15 locations in the state, aimed at enhancing road user safety, said state executive councillor for infrastructure Izham Hashim.

In a video on TikTok today, Izham said that the state government's initiative will be installed in locations that do not have street lights.

“The state government has agreed to extend the initiative to include all districts.

“The locations have been identified in 15 locations, such as in Sepang, Kuala Langat and Petaling.

“We will implement it soon, so that this initiative can be appreciated by users and contribute to the safety of Selangor residents,” he said in the video.

In the same video, Izham visited a stretch of dark road in Sungai Lalang, Hulu Langat, last night, and was installed with the glow-in-the-dark marking.

He said the project along the road involves approximately 245 meters.

The initiative is Malaysia’s first glow-in-the-dark road project.

The technology produces light reflection from vehicle headlights, an innovation in road engineering.

By retaining the yellow light reflection characteristic using High-Intensity Prismatic Sheet, the lighting method is improved with phosphorescence, also known as ‘glow-in-the-dark’ technology, which contains phosphors pigments to emit visible light after being energised.
