SUBANG JAYA, Feb 7 — The state government is committed to improving young women’s standard of living by encouraging their involvement in digital entrepreneurship.

To this end, state executive councillor for women empowerment Anfaal Saari said RM231,000 has been allocated for the organisation of the Young Women Entrepreneur Digital Media Incentive (Usahawanita) programme.

“The objective of this programme is clear; to create awareness among young women on the importance of digital entrepreneurship, apart from offering them the opportunity for direct interaction with the instructors.

“What’s important is the improvement in the standard of living of these women and their families, subsequently giving back to the community,” she said at the Usahawanita opening ceremony at Geno Hotel, here, yesterday.

A total of 200 individuals have been selected to participate in the programme, which involves four phases, namely basic training, advanced training, practical, and a competition for the top 30 participants.

The programme, held in collaboration with Yayasan Hijrah Selangor and Selangor Information Technology and Digital Economy Corporation, will also crown a Selangor Young Usahawanita Icon in June.

Meanwhile, Anfaal said the business world is not unfamiliar territory for women.

“It must be recognised that we are now in the era of globalisation, and the notion that women belong only in the kitchen is no longer relevant,” she said.
