SHAH ALAM, Jan 14 — A total of 800 school assistance packages will be distributed to low-income families (B40) in the Seri Serdang state constituency, in conjunction with the upcoming school session.

Its state assemblyman Abbas Azmi said the assistance would be distributed to 600 child members of the Tabung Warisan Anak Selangor (Tawas) entering Standard One, while the rest will be derived from Menteri Besar Selangor (Incorporated) or MBI contributions.

"This is a state government initiative for the B40 to reduce their financial burden in purchasing school supplies. This assistance will be distributed in stages," he said.

Abbas was speaking to the press after officiating the 'Melati Eco Garden' mini hydroponic garden at Universiti Teknologi Mara's (UiTM) Shah Alam campus yesterday.

For the 2024 school session, Yayasan Warisan Anak Selangor (Yawas) will provide assistance in the form of school bags, stationery, lunch boxes, and savings containers to 36,326 Tawas members via its School Entry Assistance Programme.

Meanwhile, the assemblyman said 400 B40 families will also receive RM200 Jom Shopping Raya vouchers in conjunction with the Chinese New Year celebrations next month.

"At present, we are still identifying eligible recipients. Distribution will be made as soon as possible so they can prepare for the festive season and shop at the Giant Seri Kembangan supermarket," he said.

RM16.48 million has been allocated for Jom Shopping vouchers this year, covering 82,400 recipients, with 23,900 for Chinese New Year, and the rest for Hari Raya Aidilfitri and Deepavali.

Jom Shopping Raya was introduced by the state government with low-income groups in mind, as a long-term initiative to safeguard the people's welfare and well-being.
